Background:
My name is Lacey (Hebert) Todd, and I am originally from Bethel, Maine, though I have lived in Mexico for the past 12 years. I graduated from Telstar High School and then went on to the University of Maine - Farmington to earn my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Upon graduating from UMF, I worked as a special education teacher at Mountain Valley Middle School, and then Mountain Valley High School for the past 11 years. During that time, I earned my special education certification through the University of Maine System and then went on to earn my master’s degree in Inclusion Education through the University of New England. I enjoyed the program so much that I decided to enroll in a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study program for K-12 Literacy, which I completed in 2009. I spent the following five years working on my Ed.S. in Teacher Leadership through a Walden University online program, which I completed last October. My latest educational endeavor is the UNE Reading Specialist program, which I just began last spring. As you can see, I have a passion for learning!
Several people have asked me why I decided to make the transition from high school special education to elementary general education. There are several reasons, but the primary reason is that I have always imagined myself working at the elementary level, and the time was right for me to make this transition. I have longed for the energy and enthusiasm of the younger age group, and I feel as though I will be able to make a more significant impact in the literacy development of younger learners than I could at the high school level. I will certainly miss my “big kids” but I am so excited to finally be fulfilling my dream of becoming an elementary teacher.
On a personal note, I live in Mexico with my wonderful husband, Rich, and our golden retriever, Addie. In my free time (if I ever have any!) I love to read, crochet, and decorate cakes. I also love spending time with my family. I have six nieces and nephews ranging from 18 months to 12 years old. They are my inspiration for almost everything that I do, from teaching to cake decorating!
